Another pic of the tied up motor (with a beer in the background -- this was thirsty work). You can see the mill at top left. Note that before closing the motor up, I had to spray-varnish all of the winding to prevent it from shifting position as the motor runs. I used oil-based spray varnish from Lowe's. You can get stuff specifically designed for motor windings at Grainger or McMaster-Carr, but they were closed when I went looking for it. This stuff seems to be working fine so far. I made a tube of paper to protect the shaft from getting varnished, then wet the stuff down nice and heavy. It took about 2 days to dry completely.
