Rules for participation: Many similar projects require composers to underwrite the cost of the recording and to waive all mechanical license fees.  This project is subsidized in part through an award from the University of Central Missouri, and selected composers will not be required to pay for the commercial release.

To the extent possible, mechanical license fees will be paid to each selected composer.  However, if production costs require it, composers will agree to waive mechanical license fees and/or accept copies of the released DVD/DVD-A in lieu of fees. The finances of this project will be transparent and available for review to all selected composers throughout the process. Composers will retain copyright in their works.

Finally, all selected composers must commit to host the performance tour in a venue licensed by BMI & ASCAP (if in the USA).  Hosting the tour will involve paying for lodging (max. 2 nights), travel to your location from the previous tour stop, per diem, and any ancillary costs, to be determined in advance. In my experience, performance royalties paid to the composer will often offset these costs significantly.

Sample costs for a typical, USA-based performance (costs will vary depending on location, of course):
Lodging: $140 (2 nights in a hotel @ $70/night, home stay okay)
2 days of car rental @ $40/day ($80)
Fuel $4.00/gallon @ 25 miles/gallon @ 500 miles ($80)
2 days per diem @ $40/day ($80)
Venue (free, if associated as a professor, affiliated composer, etc.)

Total: $340

All costs will be determined and agreed upon in advance. I am interested in exploring any and all possibilities; if you are interested in this project, please submit a score and we will see if we can make it work.

Please note: composers from outside North America are welcome to submit materials; tour costs for performances abroad will be discussed on a case-by-case basis.  Some financial support may be available for international performances.  I will be in Greece for performances with the Athens Saxophone Quartet during March 2009, so tour stops in Europe will be easier to arrange than they would be otherwise.

For return of materials, please enclose SASE.  Other materials will be retained and may be considered for future programming.
